TRAFFIC-RELATED FATALITIES DECREASE 17 PERCENT Transportation Secretary Announces 2008 Figures RALEIGH — State Transportation Secretary Gene Conti today declared that activity related fatalities in North Carolina diminished by more than 17 percent a year ago. "Security is our top need," Conti said. "This diminishing is noteworthy and exhibits what can be proficient when state and nearby offices cooperate to make North Carolina a more secure spot to go." According to the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles, from 2007 to 2008: • Traffic-related fatalities diminished from 1,705 to 1,406; • Alcohol-related fatalities diminished 19.8 percent from 489 to 392; and • Motorcycle fatalities declined 26 percent from 192 to 142. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration appraises that across the country, 37,313 individuals were lethally harmed in engine vehicle car accidents in 2008. The country additionally saw the most reduced casualty rate ever recorded in 2008 at 1.28 fatalities for each 100 million vehicle miles went, down from 1.36 in 2007. As per DMV, movement related fatalities are down roughly 12 percent so far this year contrasted with this time a year ago.
