Waterton National Park - Canada Established on May 20 th 1895 140 square km ( 54 square miles) Since extended to 525 square km ( 203 square miles) F.W. Godsall a Pincher Creek Rancher was instrumental in its foundation The recreation center was named after the chain of lakes called Waterton Lakes named by Lieutenant Blakiston The main Park Superintendent was John George Kootenai Brown designated In 1911

Glacier National Park - USA Evidence of People living in the region going Back 10,000 years – predecessors of the Blackfeet Indians 1806 Lewis and Clark came surprisingly close to what is presently the Park People began settling the region after consummation of the Marias Pass utilized by the Great Northern Railway in 1891 In the 1890\'s tourism to the territory started George Bird Grinnell and others started to push for formation of a National Park Initially it was made a Forest Preserve in 1900 however individuals kept on pushing for a recreation center and in 1910 President Taft marked a bill making it the 10 th National Park in US

The IDEA Over the years, Park officers felt that the two Parks ought to some way or another be participated In 1931, they were joined by others with the same thought Cardston and Butte Rotarians (counting Tom Davis, future RI President) felt that the parks ought to be joined as an image of the fellowship shared amongst Canada and the United States. In 1931 July 4 they met a cooperative attitude meeting of 100 Rotarians from Alberta and Montana Here, they chose to campaign both governments to set up " a perpetual International Peace Park"

Negotiations Both sides started to campaign their forthcoming Governments By December 8, 1931 the House of Representatives had passed a bill to set up " the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park" and was passed by the Senate April 25 th 1932 A comparable bill was passed by the Canadian Government in 1932
