Physical Exam Session 2 - Head and Neck Exam Oct 13 – 27, 2011;Learning Center Room 673 (see master schedule for the exact date and time of your session) Learning objectives: At the end of this one-hour session, the student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate the proper technique for the screening eye examination (visual fields, pupillary size and reaction, examination of the lids, sclera and conjunctiva, extra-ocular muscle testing, and the ophthalmoscope exam). 2. Identify the optic disc. 3. Demonstrate the proper technique of the ear exam (proper use of the otoscope and testing for air and bone conduction). 4. Identify the important landmarks on the tympanic membrane (short process of the malleus, handle of the malleus, cone of light). 5. Demonstrate the proper technique for examination of the nose and sinuses. 6. Demonstrate the proper technique for examination of the mouth using a tongue blade. 7. Demonstrate the proper technique for evaluation of the neck (lymph nodes, thyroid gland, and carotid arteries) and know the properties of malignant lymph nodes. 8. Interpret Weber and Rinne tests using a tuning fork.
