Aims of the partnership Supporting new ITE entrants to understand the richness of learning opportunities within MLAs Reciprocal sharing of practice between students and host venues Impact on host staff understanding of their provision for young childrens learning Impact on students understanding of potential for young childrens learning in off site venues. 7. Common benefits For students: Innovative pedagogies experienced: informal, Constructivist, experiential, enquiry based, child interest. For partners: Reciprocity of ideas and knowledge of the curriculum and where it fits. S

10. What the Learning Staff Thought It was a great opportunity the input has been invaluable. Very enjoyable/useful experience. Feel that our venue has gained a lot from being involved. It has opened my eyes to the broad learning objectives that can be covered by a trip to our venue. Lovely to spend time with someone enthusiastic and with fresh eyes. A

11. What the Students Thought I feel a visit to a museum can fuel an entire Medium Term Plan. I feel this placement is invaluable in terms of being a student teacher. Ive learned the value of partnership. Gave huge insight and opportunity for thought about how venues can be used both in and out of school to enrich topics. A

18. Tensions Experienced During This Ambitious Project ... Snow! Outlying venues.... Initially shortfall of host venues: 20 anticipated ultimately 15 Yr 1 students needed a little more support initially. S

Previously I would not think that museums could link into teaching; but by attending placements it has opened my eyes as to how museums are structured and how this can be linked to a variety of learning areas It has opened my eyes to the potential for learning at all levels in a museum. 20. Is there anything you would change? Id have preferred the opportunity to do a week long placement The days could have been closer so we did not have to wait so long to return Go in the springtime rather than the winter! S

21. What advice would you give next years trainees? Forget your memories of maybe, boring, cold school trips! Keep an open mind and you will be surprised at the wide range of fun and effective learning opportunities! S

23. Evaluation We feel the aims, although ambitious, have been realised: Far greater understanding of the possibilities by both sides. Rich resources to be placed on the museum websites to support schools and settings in their planning. Greater confidence in creative planning S

Looking to the Future - Lasting Partnerships Continued collaboration with University Tutors and museum colleagues This years BA Yr 2 Option in May: a Museums and Galleries placement for 10 students Museum venues embedded into our programmes: PGCE Cross Curricular Week and across the BA Museum colleagues to continue input into programmes Students remaining in contact with venues Sustaining relationships with the University e.g. Ford and Etal Estates in Northumberland S
