This study, conducted by Murphy et al in 1998, examines the training effects of short and long bouts of brisk walking on sedentary women. The participants in the study were 47 women aged 44-62 years old who worked 5 days a week for 10 weeks. They maintained their normal diet, and their maximum heart rate (MHR) and velocity (Vel) were monitored, with a range of 70-80 MHR and 1.6-1.8 m/s. The study found that three bouts of 10 minutes of brisk walking was effective in improving cardiorespiratory fitness in sedentary women.
