2. WELCOME! Aims of this session: To introduce you to Connecting Classrooms and all of its three strands: - School Partnerships - Continuing Professional Development - International School Award

3. Connecting Classrooms Connecting Classrooms is a global education programme for schools. It is designed to help young people learn about global issues and become responsible global citizens. It aims to provide the skills they need for work in a global economy. It offers school partnerships; professional development courses for teachers; school accreditation; and generally, the chance to share & exchange best practice with international counterparts.

Eligible countries South Asia Bangladesh , India , Nepal, Pakistan , Sri Lanka Sub-Saharan Africa Botswana , Democratic Republic of Congo , Ethiopia , Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia , Malawi, Mozambique , Namibia , Nigeria , Rwanda, Senegal , Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan , Sudan , Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe Middle East and North Africa Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq , Jordan , Lebanon , Palestine, Saudi Arabia , Yemen* Americas Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago United Kingdom Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland , England

6. Partnership composition 2 way : 1-1 2 way Cluster: 3-3 3 way (SSA only): 1-1-1 3 way Cluster (SSA only) 3-3-3 3 way example: 1 x UK 1 x Ghana 1 x Ethiopia

7. Grant £1500 per school • Travel (3 application deadlines per year)  Reciprocal visit for 1 teacher in each school  Eligible costs include: Flights, accommodation, internal travel, visas, essential vaccinations, 1-trip travel insurance • If leftover funds: communications, project materials, such as handouts, publicity flyers etc. Note: Items such as computers, iPads, skipping ropes, etc. not eligible

Continuing Professional Development - face-to-face courses facilitated by OASES - several courses planned for North East in 2014/15 - next course: 1 st October 2014 in Newcastle “ Introduction to international learning ” - online courses accessed from Schools Online ( www.schoolsonline.britishcouncil.org/connectingclassrooms -learning )

The British Council International School Award: What is it? – provides a motivational framework for teachers to develop themselves professionally – recognises commitment to developing global citizenship in young people – gives formal accreditation for educational outcomes – http://schoolsonline.britishcouncil.org/ accreditation-and- awards/International-School-Award
